‘Everlasting Love’ is a song written by Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden, originally a 1967 hit for Robert Knight in the U.S.A. In the UK, this great song was covered by the Love Affair. It achieved No.1 status in January 1968, eclipsing the Robert Knight original. Lead vocalist Steve Ellis had a similar vocal style to Steve Marriott of the Small Faces, and the production was similar to a Motown soul record. Controversy ensued when the group admitted that it had been re recorded and that they had not played on the record, but that all the work was done by session musicians with a Mike Smith production. Kiki Dee, Madeline Bell, and Lesley Duncan were among the backing singers.
